What do ya mean, 'changed'?

Balto875 [30 Nov 17:51]
I don't know how but baltocentral kinda changed, but it's still a great site

baltohaterburner [30 Nov 17:50]
My poor spelling is not lack of intelligence, its lack of caring to what your saying, now if you excuse me, i must go do my homework, then go set up surround sound with my dad, then chat with 10 friends over the phone as usual.

Beo [30 Nov 16:40]
And this makes me laugh all the harder, and not from your contradictory misspellings, either! Just because you and your group of friends consider reading to be some form of lost practice does not mean that the rest of society has the same mindset as you.

Fictional stories are an artform in their own fashion, as each is created from the imagination of the author. Not all of them are intended to be adapted into a film, show, or game of some sort. Doing so with many books would rub out what made them special to begin with. Ayn Rand's 'Anthem', for example, is a small novel telling of a man's struggle to understand a surge of individualism that has arisen in him in a society where collectivism thrives and the word 'I' is nonexistant. It is considered a marvelous work of literature, but creating it into some type of stupid FPS, RPG, movie, or show would take away all of its value, all of its importance, and most likely make the author turn in their grave.

As I said before, literary works have their place and should be respected, and things like games and movies have their own place, and also should be respected.

You may not know this, having not read a book in your life, but regardless of how great a film adaptation of a movie may be, it would still never amount to how great it was considered to be in book form because the imagination does not have a specific cost on their special effects and no time period for it to be running in, thus it is pretty dang hard to live up to the expectations that the imagination first creates upon reading the book.

Alpine [30 Nov 16:02]
Literature isn't on it's way out, it's just changing. In probably 20 years, the way we talk now might be considered odd or unusual.

baltohaterburner [30 Nov 14:56]
Beo, the fact of the matter is, I have truly never read one single book in my liftime, and im a honors, high honors student. I truly believe literature is becoming obselete, anything fiction will soon seem strange, i believe the only thing left will be books that contain information. Since well, not one of my real life friends has enjoyed reading books, and my friends are morons either, they too are honors students.

Balto875 [30 Nov 13:30]
HUH, I skipped school today it ruled Beavis and Butt-Heads on T.V.

Beo [30 Nov 07:11]
I was only specifying videogames because it was the main subject for your disturbing theory. Quote: "Videogames can help your (sic) learn to read and so much more..." end quote. You did include television and movies 'as well', but your sentence didn't make them appear to be the main idea. I did regard that by saying books aren't going to be replaced by video games AND THE LIKE. Regardless, the same idea applies for television and movies also, and such absurdity makes me laugh all the same. If it does happen, I will proceed to abandon society and write about the fall of our species in the hopes that other intelligent creatures would take heed and avoid such a fate.

Please make sure YOU comprehend my sentences accurately before attempting to respond, and it's usually best to have a better base or some logic behind you before making such a silly claim as books being obsolete.

Dreaming Wolf [30 Nov 06:44]
Well it's true to some extent that video games can improve your motor skills, but at the same time it decreases some of our learning ability too. Plus, video games take away from time that we could be sitting outside and enjoying the weather, OR reading a good book. I have 20 videos that I never watch, and 70 books that I have read :D

baltohaterburner [30 Nov 06:14]
I wasnt just saying videogames beo. Please make sure your comprehending my sentance before you say something. I was talking about pretty much all visual entertainment, dont read what other people said to me, read what i said.. And MAverick, those some games may seem "mindless" It is far from it, Heck, i have had WW2 driled into my head by now, As Beo said, RPG's....all an RPG is is a very very long math problem relle. Tons of %'s and multipliers and eh the list goes on an on. Even games that may seem insignificant like Dance Dance Revolution teach you something, you can gain better rythm by playing that game. Well i wouldput more, but morning thinking isnt my thing.

Woot now time to run off..to go to school, learn...and i guess..yeah hang with my good friend Verta in Biology ^_^...Bio rules.

Sombra [29 Nov 23:12]
Thanks BHB. Missed ya too! But I have to disagree with you on hatiing books. If Ania never told any of you, I love to read. Thought, I totally have to agree, movies and video games rock! **Note: I went to see the fourth Harry Potter this weekend. Has anyone else seen it?

Beo [29 Nov 23:03]
Oye, such fun. So many opinionated and vague comments about. Where to begin...

BHB, there's no way books are going to be replaced by videogames or the like for a very, VERY long time, if not ever. Like Togo said, they contain actual information that games wouldn't be created for, such as medical, technological, and mathematical info. On top of that, the vocabulary you learn from the works of authors help you to develop an actual vocabulary so you don't sound and write like a dang 8 year old when you speak or type. On top of that, it would be too time consuming and simply ludicrous to create individual games or shows for each thing that requires a book. There are simply too many and doing such would take too much time and cost too much to gather up a team who would make it. Books and stories have their place and video games have theirs. What you have said has made me lose even more faith in the development in the human race, and i can only pray that such a catastrophe as books, and therefore the written word as a whole, becoming obsolete will never occur.

Maverick, though I understand your reasoning in that video games are generally stereotyped as mindless killing sprees with no story whatsoever, but I also must say that your assumption is also fairly inaccurate. There are several videogames that aim to both entertain and enlighten their players by means of a complex storyline and deep, satisfying gameplay (one example of such a game is Xenogears for the Playstation, which delves deep into the ideas of politics, religion, love, and trust). Others sometimes educate in a more literary or grammatical fashion. An example of this would again be Xenogears or any other RPG, most of which contain more than a novel's worth of text and are usually filled with advanced words ( I must ay that this is most likely how my own vocabulary has developed). Saying nothing is learned by ALL of them again an inaccurate stereotype, like saying all asian people know kung-fu or something similar to that.

If that doesn't convince you to think otherwise about games, then there's always math blaster or the multitudes of other edutainment video games.

Alpine [29 Nov 21:51]
A study shows that video games can improve your motorskills, and educational video games and help you a small amount.

redwolf03 [29 Nov 19:55]
*gags* Oh no, I can't believe some one can actually hate books! Exactly what types of books have you read, bhb? 'Cause you sound like you could use another genre! How can you HATE books???!!! I LOVE 'em with a passion!!!! NOTHING'S as awesome as a good book!

Maverick [29 Nov 19:48]
Ha, you must be kidding Bhb I sure hope you are cause there is nothing you can learn from some screen.

togo [29 Nov 17:41]
Ughh... since I'm in band all I can think about while watching the movie is that we should play the music, which is awesome, but I can't enjoy the movie as much. :(

kasey [29 Nov 17:20]
I've noticed that too I'm watching it right now..

togo [29 Nov 17:10]
What you said about video games is true, BHB, but so many wonderful and life improving things have been written in books. For example, textbooks that help young people understand the world around them, and important scientific information that have helped other scientists later on the help cure diseases like polio and ... OMG!!! Balto's on Toon Disney! OK, bye! :P

kasey [29 Nov 17:00]
SFA come on over to chat, I'll sign in when I see you there.

baltohaterburner [29 Nov 15:23]
I hate books with an almost utter passion. Reading only improves your readin skills. Now-a-days, books are obsolete. Videogames can help your learn to read and so much more...same with alot of television and movies. Just my 2 cents.

Dreaming Wolf [29 Nov 08:11]
To Redwolf: I had a dream about Harry Potter last nice, and boy was it realistic! But yeah, books are way better than the movies. It's like the new movie The War Of The Worlds. That was a disapointment :/

baltohaterburner [29 Nov 06:04]
Sombra,i missed ya soooo much on here.

HAPPY HOLIDAYZ EVRYBODY

Balto875 [28 Nov 21:03]
Finally I'm back from my Thanksgiving vacation I'm sooo tired

redwolf03 [28 Nov 20:11]
*giggle* I meant seat, not sheet! Where the heck did that come from? *laughs hard*

redwolf03 [28 Nov 20:10]
to togo: Yeah, like in the Harry Potter 4 movie where they left out the giant spider and sphinx in the maze. I was on the edge of my sheet waiting for the spider to come crashing out of the foliage, but it never happened! *disappointed* Let's hope the new 'Narnia' movie includes most of the best bits. I'm counting down the days till I see it! :) Yes, I know, I'm crazy...

kasey [28 Nov 17:17]
SFA come to chat when you come back. I'll sign in when I see you.

togo [28 Nov 16:38]
The books are usually better than the movies because the movies leave out some of the events that are in the book, because if they did, the movie would be too long.

Greykitty [28 Nov 16:29]
I really like the Chronicles of Narnia. I've read all of them, some more than once. I liked the radio series that was released a few years back. I really hope they do a good job on this movie. But as with most books to film, the books are almost always better.

Glory Wolf [28 Nov 15:47]

http://www.freewebs.com/roverstorage/TexasMassacre.doc
I would post it the normal way thru the member area, but it doesn't seem to be working. Anyways, read it, enjoy it and remember it's Rated R due to the violent content of the story and don't say I didn't warn ya'll.

Luminate [28 Nov 15:16]
Well, I'm finally here. Haven't posted here in a long while. Did everyone have a nice Thanksgiving? That is, if you celebrate it.

Dreaming Wolf [28 Nov 14:45]
Yeah, I geuss reading the book would be the best thing to do. I didn't read the book before watching th Lord of the Rings, and I KNOW I couldn't do it now, lol

kasey [28 Nov 13:07]
I'm only here for 15 minutes cuz its my lunch break. Sorry I wasnt here SFA.

Glory wolf [28 Nov 00:49]
..39 minutes later....

ice husky [27 Nov 22:57]
i had to read 'the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe' for school in 4th grade, but our class never finished reading it! (and it was a class set of books too so i dont have it lying around at home somewhere) i really liked it and i want to finish it before i see the movie. i thought i would just find out how it ended by watching the movie, but then i saw harry potter 4 and i realized how much explanation they left out at the end, so im gonna find the book and try to reread it. i also heard that "the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe' wasn't the first book, but maybe the other one was a prequel? made after the other books? im just guessing so correct me if im wrong . . .

Cyberwulfe [27 Nov 22:07]
Dreaming Wolf: I highly suggest you read the book before you see the movie. I tried reading Lord of the Rings after seeing the movie and I just could not read it. It was so slow. But reading the Chronicles of Narnia would really be worth it!

redwolf03 [27 Nov 21:08]
To Dreaming Wolf: If you like magic, battles, good vs. evil, adventure, that kind of stuff, you'll DEFINITELY like the Narnia Chronicles! :) I know I love them! My favorite character's Aslan, the Lion, but I like Lucy too.

alteanwolf [27 Nov 20:52]
Hey GW! I've been at church.

Dreaming Wolf [27 Nov 20:30]
I don't read the Chronicles of Narnia. Are they any good? I saw that the movie was coming out, so maybe my dad and I will watch it! :D

redwolf03 [27 Nov 20:21]
:) I know I have the whole Chronicles of Narnia set SOMEWHERE in my room...I don't think they'll do all 7 movies. They're not even starting with the first one, 'The Magician's Nephew'. That's actually the first Narnia book, and tells how Narnia came to be and everything, yet all the newspapers and even my pastor say 'The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe' is the first book, when it's actually the second! >:( I read the books mainly for all the interesting turns they take, like when Eustace turns into a dragon in 'The Voyage of the Dawn Treader'. That was good. :)

Maverick [27 Nov 19:18]
I've only read the first book and found it pretty intertaining myself, I plan on takin my darlin to see the movie with me.

Cyberwulfe [27 Nov 17:08]
I used to have the entire CHronicles of Narnia in a box set. I read the entire series and I thought they were all good reads. I am very much looking forward to The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. Although I hope they don't do all of the movies, because that would just get monotonous.

baltohaterburner [27 Nov 15:13]
UI dont think i said n e thing of that sort, I have been looking foreward to it for a while..and yes, i have read the book, prolly one of the biggest wastes of my time. I just wanna see the movie for the battle scenes.

kasey [27 Nov 14:57]
I dont think its horrible, I'm watching it when it comes out

redwolf03 [27 Nov 14:55]
Question: why do so many people think the 'Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe' looks "gay"? Have you even read the book, bhb? If you want "gay", watch the OLD 'The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe' movie. That goes on for 8 HOURS with horrible special effects and everything. The new one looks TONS better. I want to go see it, and I am, along with my whole church! I think we're going to get the whole theater to ourselves! It's going to be so awesome!!...Why do you guys think it looks so horrible?
